Dale Fort is about as close to the sea as you can get with a short walk down to the rocky coastline. You can enjoy spectacular sea views from high points of the Centre. With indoor common rooms and a bar to relax in this location is a great base for families to explore Pembrokeshire, Wales. It also has its own boat for trips for getting out onto the water.

We have simple, comfortable accommodation mostly in a mixture of twin/3-bedded rooms and dormitory style rooms. Toilet and shower facilities are close by. Dale Fort has a quiet lounge for visiting adults equipped with a TV, DVD player, and tea and coffee making facilities. There is a common room for children with pool table, board games, TV and DVD player, and area for making hot and cold drinks.

There is a field for football, rugby, rounders, etc. Sports equipment is available from the office. A lawn and decked area has been created for relaxation on the top of the headland for impressive views across Pembrokeshire and the Milford Haven waterway. Between the fields are an Iron Age Fort and the site of an ancient village, over 2000 years old. For many visitors just living in a 150 year old historic Fortress is exciting, with gun emplacements like the 1890s Zalinski Pneumatic Dynamite Gun, one of the biggest guns ever built.

Explore the Surrounding Area

Dale Fort is a converted Victorian Military Fort situated in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, Wales. It is surrounded by the sea, in a spectacular cliff-top setting overlooking Milford Haven waterway. The Centre provides an ideal base for exploring the stunning scenery of the National Park including the famous bird-islands of Skomer, Skokholm and Grassholm. So don’t forget to bring your binoculars on holiday with you!

The Centre is a few minutes’ walk away from the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path with access to beautiful beaches and lovely scenery. Dale village, a 15 minute walk from the Centre, has a beach, cafe, pub and watersports Centre.

An evening stroll around the grounds looking for signs of night-time wildlife. Set some mammal traps ready for the following morning session, then find out what it’s like to be a bat and hopefully hear some different species of bats using a bat detector.

Discover what has been out at night in our centre grounds by opening up our small mammal and moth traps. Learn how traps are used for scientific monitoring and what happens with the data collected.

Seine Netting - £7.50 per person (under 3years free)

Explore the hidden animals that lurk underneath the surface by deploying a seine net to take a closer look at crabs, shrimps and juvenile fish which uses the Gann Estuary as a safe haven. This method of fishing was widely used in the past and dates back to at least the stone age in the UK, but is rarely used today. This activity meets at the Gann Car Park 1.5 miles (30 minute walk) from Dale Fort. This activity will not be offered every day and will be dependent on the weather (booking and payment on arrival). This activity can be very wet and any children under 8 going into the water needs to be accompanied by an adult. Provisional dates for seine netting are: Friday 2nd August, Tuesday 6th August, Friday 9th August, Tuesday 13th August, Monday 19th August and Thursday 22nd August.
