Activities

What activities are included?

Each location will offer one free activity for each night you stay. Some locations offer additional activities for a small charge. You can view the activites on offer if you scroll to the bottom of the individual location's page. See our locations

How much participation is needed from parents in activities?

We encourage participation from parents. Yet with some activities parents will watch from a distance, for instances with the snorkelling most parents watch on the sand while children are in the sea.  However we do have to state that we will not take children on activities without parents being there.

What clothes do I need to bring?

If you are taking part in our outdoor activities we recommend you bring waterproofs and warm clothes. Walking boots are also recommended however if you have wellingtons or an old pair of comfortable trainers that you don’t mind getting muddy they will do. If you are attending an activity in or on water we recommend bringing swimsuits or trunks so you can put them on underneath wetsuits. 

What is on offer for the families to do in the evenings?

At most centres evening times are seen as relaxing and downtime, most parents will sit in the parents lounge while children all play together. Some centres have TV and games rooms available. However you are welcome to come and go as you please.  You also may wish to bring extra books and games.

What happens if an activity is cancelled?

If a centre has to cancel an activity for various circumstances than an alternative activity will be provided or you will be refunded.

 

Accommodation and Food

Will I be sharing a room with another family?

No, each family will get their own room(s) together.

Are bedrooms ensuite?

Each location prides itself on having its own unique character and therefore the standard and type of facilities available may vary. Ensuite rooms may be available at some locations, but showers and toilets are close by if not.

Are bed linen and towels provided?

Yes all centres provided bed linen and most centres provide towels. You may need to check with the centre to see if they provide towels.  However we don’t provide beach towels.

When are meal times?

Meal times vary but there will be a window of time for each meal. Lunch is a packed lunch which you make up at breakfast time so can be eaten at a time to suit you. 

What’s the food like?

We provide healthy and hearty meals for all of our guests. We have a variety of hot wholesome meals including a vegetarian option plus we have delicious homemade cakes. We strive to maintain our high standards at all times. If you have any special food requirements please let a member of staff know before you arrive at the centre. Don’t forget to bring a lunch box and a flask for any day trips out.

A typical day's menu may be:

A limited cooked breakfast with a choice of cereals and toast
A packed lunch (make up your own from a choice at breakfast)
An evening meal with a meat and vegetarian option e.g. curry or pasta, a desert and choice of fruit
Tea, coffee and squash are always available.

Do you have Wifi?

Although we do have free WiFi at our centres we should state that it is subject to what rooms you may be in to whether you can be connected or not.  This is something that we can’t help; our centres are located in stunning locations.

Are cots available or do I need to bring my own?

We don't charge for under three year olds (age at the time of arriving on your holiday). Cots are available at some centres however we recommend that you ring and check with the centre themselves as they might only have a low number of cots. Baby baths are not provided at any of our centres, so please bring your own. 

Do you have disabled access/facilities?

Some of our locations have accommodation and facilities suitable for wheelchair access: Scottish Islands, Yorkshire Dales, Lake District, South Wales, Dale Fort and Box Hill. Activities may not be possible to access depending what they are so we recommend speaking to the location before booking to check this.

General

Are all families welcome?

Yes we welcome all types of families including single parent families and grandparents.

Are babies/toddlers welcome? 

Babies and toddlers are welcome on Real Family Holidays. We don't charge for under three year olds (age at the time of arriving on your holiday). We do need to point out that smaller children do go to bed earlier and there may be noises from older children playing inside or outside the centre. Also, many of the free activities will be aimed at older children, the activity information should give further guidance.

Can we bring our pet?

We regret we do not have facilities for pets and therefore cannot normally accept them at our Centres. However, we are able to make special arrangements to accommodate guide dogs.

Do I have to have children to come on Real Family Holidays?

Real Family Holidays are designed for families with children.  We offer them at an affordable price to allow parents to introduce their children to the natural world.  The activities are aimed at children and young people. 

If you are visiting with extended family we welcome all types of family (see above), however Real Family Holidays are not intended for couples/groups of adults.
